THANK YOU Our 'world premier' performances went exceedingly well. We sold out all three days, including all the extra seats we could set up in the walkways. It took an average of twenty minutes after the scheduled show time each night just to seat everyone. There's no doubt that our show was an unqualified success!
In fact response was so popular that many that reserved tickets but did not pay for them were turned away. We heard heart-breaking stories of people bearing bouquets of flowers for the performers who were turned away, leaving the flowers behind at the ticket office. Others who were directly involved in the show couldn't get in. It was all a bit of a fiasco and to those who had trouble we sincerely apologize for your trouble.
Many have asked if there will be other performances. None are planned at this time, but we are considering possible opportunities. One of our principal characters is on tour with a traveling show and will not be available again until mid-spring, so we will revisit the topic at that time. In any case, we'd enjoy putting the show on again and we invite you to return to this website as the best way to get the most current information about additional dates.

The Journey of Our Own Becoming
“The eye by which I see is the same eye by which God sees me.” This insight from Meister Eckhart captures the essence of Opening the Eye of Light. As we herald the arrival of the Age of Aquarius, the play celebrates a time of renewal and awakening. Illuminating this time of transition characters emerge from the archetypal world, the dreamland of myth to serve as quickening agents of our metamorphosis. Through images inspired by Western Societies oldest creation myth, a myth that reflects the theories of Superstring Physics we look back to the being to see how to begin again. Gaia and Chronus, Mother Earth and Father Time, humorously lead us into a reckoning and challenge our concepts of place and time. A love story between Eros and Psyche, the God of Love and the Human Soul, illuminates the ageless potential inherent in the human soul to join with the Divine as co-creators and caregivers of all creation. Titania, Queen of the Fairies and her court of Fairy Elementals tempt us to dance the promises of the dreamland into the world of reality. Looking back and forward, seeing what lies around and within us, Opening the Eye of Light is an invitation to journey into the core of becoming.
Overview
Opening the Eye of Light is an experimental theatre production that incorporates elements of full body painting of the actors, video images, a dramatic over-sized puppet, and mythic themes. The piece features original music, songs, choreography, and movement inspired by various cultures from around the world.
A work in progress, the play is based on Western Civilization’s earliest Pelasgian Creation myth and recent theories from Superstring Physics. Philosophically the story looks at what it means to us as individuals and a society as we enter into the Age of Aquarius. Specifically, it strives to inspire audience members to become co-creators with the Divine and caregivers of Mother Earth in the new Eon. The core element that will be the main focus of our production at the Greensboro Fringe Theatre Festival draws from the mythic love story between Eros, the god of love and Psyche, the soul of humanity.
The action begins when Dark-Winged Night and Orphion the Serpent birth the universe from nothingness. With recorded and live music and actors chanting beneath images projected through a giant Eye of Horus a large puppet, painted Celtic Fairy Elementals, and the rest of the characters dance into existence. After this energetic and colorful opening, in a Beckett-inspired landscape we meet the Greek goddess Gaia (Mother Earth) and Chronus (Father Time) now homeless and living on a junk heap. At the end of the current age Gaia awakens having dreamed of the beginning. Through comedy Gaia and Chronus look at current issues affecting our planet and our lives. Moving back into Gaia’s dreamtime the play introduces a twist on the boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy get girl back plot of traditional romances and musicals. Here, the human soul, Psyche falls in love with the Eros, the god of Love. Temptation follows as we meet the titillating Titania, Queen of the Fairies, holding court with her Fairy Elementals in the Underworld. What happens next? Well, as they say in Sweeney Todd, “that’s the play and we wouldn’t want to give it away,” But it promises be an enchanting and provocative evening in the theatre.
