LivingBrush Bodypainting’s Scott Fray and Madelyn Greco have seen plenty of success in their history of association with the art form of bodypainting. As co-creators of the new American competition “Living Art America”. they are hoping to create an ideal event to elevate the art form in this country, while promoting the idea that the US can and should host a premiere, world-class championship. With the official sanction from the World Bodypainting Association and a competition that has grown from local to international in just one year’s time, they are set to utilize all of their competitive expertise to foster Living Art America’s continued growth. Excerpted below is the 2013 review from the Living Art America blog:

It was a banner year for Bodies as a Work of Art… the Chelko Foundation’s annual avant-garde fine art fundraiser. Having begun a mere 4 years ago with only 10 local artists competing for top honors, the event has grown into a world-class competition! With official sanctioning by the World Bodypainting Association (a first for the US) 40 artists from 9 countries and 14 states gathered to test their skills and stretch their creative limits in the new Living Art America / Bodies as a Work of Art competition in Atlanta, Georgia.

Creating the perfect backdrop for this spectacular show, the event took place in two, original World War II era aircraft hangars located at the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport just North of Atlanta. As Patrons gathered they were treated to a magnificent early fall evening and a welcoming committee of spectacularly painted models. Once inside, guests interacted with “SpanDexters” while enjoying sumptuous food from the Warren City Club, Southbound, Ria’s Blue Bird, Goin’ Coastal and Wahoo, MetroFresh. Additionally, never ending cocktails were provided Bombay Sapphire, Five Seasons Brewing and O Wines. Throughout the almost surreal evening, music was provided by Crystal Bright, Romeo Spike and Babi-Mac.

Before the models hit the runway, a professional jury carefully evaluated the entries in two categories, Emerging Artist and Professional. A jury of recognized industry professional did the scoring Craig Tracy, Bella Volen, Alex Barendregt, Scott Fray and Madelyn Greco. Points were awarded according the standards set by the WBA. Judging from the packed house responses, it was nearly impossible to determine a winner… they were all outstanding works. In the end, the scoring for both categories was tight though the winners were clear. The Audience also had an opportunity to participate by text voting for favorite artist and favorite model.

The evening would not have been possible without the generous support of Binder’s Art Supplies, Tootsies, Dermatology Affiliates, Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery and Hello Rx.

As a result, the Chelko Foundation was able to make a $10,000 contribution to Angel Flight Soars, award $12,500 in artist grants and contribute $7,500 toward the Chelko Endowment at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
