Models Wanted We are always looking for models for a variety of events. Commercial projects require a stricter adherence to certain body types, but for other projects we are interested in anyone, male or female, with an attractive physique that is interested in participating in this amazing and unique art form. We are also interested in people with unique or exotic physical characteristics: twins, extremely long hair, dreadlocks, mohawks, etc. can make for a compelling photo session. Gymnasts, contortionists and people with physical skills can be interesting. As you can see by the photo at left, pregnant women make wonderful bodypainting subjects. Portfolio Shoots We are always at work building a portfolio of good work, showcasing our talents in a variety of creative endeavors. We are always interested in expanding our artistic explorations to include new motifs and thematic approaches in search of personal excellence. This is an ongoing process, where there is a lot of play and experimentation. The art, as always, has to be high calibre, so care and attention to detail is important, but there is also a sense of discovery and revelation about this kind of work. Portfolio work can take anywhere from eight to twelve hours, depending on concept and complexity, and might involve several painters working on you at a time. It's usually done in a home or studio setting and is professionally photographed upon completion. Special Events and Performances We sometimes need models for performance events that coordinate the elements of dance, music, performance and bodypaint. These shows are great fun and can also provide a forum to highlight a performance talent or ability such as belly-dancing, poi, or stage acting experience. Just imagine exhibiting your talents with the added intrigue of being bodypainted. If you've seen one of our shows you'll have an idea of what we're about, For reference, you might look into our show at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh. Gallery Exhibits Gallery shows are different in character from performances in that the models are less entertainers and more living artworks meant to be appreciated in a setting similar to how one might view a sculpture or painting. Models are required to strike a pose and hold it for a period. Then move into a new pose, and, again, holding the pose. Sometimes a model is painted on site as part of an event or opening. The Details Compensation Fees are determined on a case by case basis for commercial, gallery, and performance projects. In portfolio work models are offered prints in return for their services, which they will receive as digital files on a disk. Plus, the fun and wondrousness of the bodypainting experience makes for great memories. Model Release All models are required to sign a model release form, which can be downloaded here. How to Apply Write us and tell us a bit about yourself, include your phone, email and address. Email us a picture(s) of yourself as a jpeg, or mail us photos and a letter to Models, Living Brush, P.O.Box 2293 Reidsville NC 27323. Addendum We get a lot of wonderful folks requesting to be bodypainted, which is exciting and we are always thrilled at their enthusiasm and energy. Here's a few tips for an aspiring bodypaint model: • Stay in touch and don't be shy. We always have a thousand projects going. Some bodypainting related, others not. Without exception, the people who end up getting painted are the ones with whom we establish a personal relationship. So, if we get to know you, you're more likely to come to mind when we're planning another painting. Considering the large pool of applicants, it's wise to be assertive. Friendly, but assertive • Much of what we are focusing on at present is portfolio building. It takes a full day in the studio with several painters working simultaneously to create this work. If you're a model who likes to work with an interested photographer with a professionally appointed studio, that's great. We welcome the opportunity to work with fresh talent and meet new creative professionals. • We're based in Greensboro NC. If you're located elsewhere, we wish you the very best, but it does make it difficult to work together. We love to hear from people, but odds are it won't be feasible to do a bodypainting session if there are a lot of miles between us. We also get many requests to hook people up with "local bodypainters" from their hometown. Sorry, but with a few exceptions, this is simply not possible. Bodypainters are a rare breed. We know less than a handful of people doing this level of work on the North American continent. You could always travel to work wth us and make a vacation of it. We've got a great guest room.
